When is it paid?

Usually after you arrive. 62.7% received the Erasmus+ grant only after leaving. Of those leaving Spain, only 11.6% are paid before they go. That is why you have to pay the journey, the deposit and the first months' rent up front.

  • In Germany: unclear rent or incomplete listing. The University of Tübingen warns that a listing may be a scam if it only gives the rent including bills ("Warmmiete"), says nothing about the energy certificate or lacks enough contact details. The certificate is only to be expected when the landlord or an agency advertises, not in a shared flat. Ask for the rent without bills (‘Kaltmiete’), the energy certificate (‘Energieausweis’) and the landlord's full details.

Before you pay anything, run the listing and the messages through the listing checker: it tells you which scam warning signs appear and what to do about each one.
